What to Eat Pageant Week

Pageant week or weekend can be a grueling test of endurance. There are rehearsals, events and interview. Often, there is a preliminary competition on top of the finals night. Late nights, early mornings and not much time to yourself can wreak havoc on your energy. Contrary to popular belief, now is NOT the time to starve yourself or dehydrate.

Before you leave, pack plenty of snacks! These should include almonds, granola bars, trail mix and dried fruit. You may want to include peppermint candies. You know, the ones that are red and white stripped. They have real peppermint which can help calm your stomach and you’ll always have fresh breath! Pack these in your rehearsal bag so you can grab them any time you start to feel hungry or your energy lagging.

Eat eggs before interview. I’ll be honest, I have no idea what the science is behind this, but I have read it so many time, I believe it. My dad even made sure I ate this before all my tests in school when I was growing up. I’ve even recently read this again. Avoid refined carbohydrates like breads and sugars as well as turkey. These can fog your brain.

Eat! Above all eat at the regular meals! I know your stomach may be doing flip-flops the whole weekend, but you need to eat to keep your energy up. Be sure to let the director know if you have any food sensitivities and be responsible for what you put in your body.

Drink plenty of water! Take a water bottle with you everywhere. If you are worried about bloating, avoid salt! Dehydration will make you feel confused and unable to focus, not good for interview! It will also make you feel tired and could give you a headache. It is difficult to perform well when you don’t feel good. Also, monitor your caffeine intake. Too much can back fire.

I hope your next pageant week or weekend is fabulous. By eating small meals, having plenty of snacks and drinking plenty of water, you will have the energy and clear mind to do your best!
